About The Team
Since taking over the program in 2008, fourth-year head coach
Sheila Gisbrecht has led the Blazers to three New
England Collegiate Conference (NECC) tournament appearances
including the league’s inaugural tournament championship
match in 2008.
Coach Gisbrecht, who was named NECC Coach of the Year in 2008, has had 14 players garner all conference recognition including five first team and five second team selections, two honorable mention selections and a player of the year and rookie of the year.
Outside hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam, Mass.) was named Second Team All-NECC following the 2011 season. Croteau, who graduates as the program's all-time leader in kills (811), digs (906) and service aces (198), smashed 89 kills during league play, averaging a team-best 2.89 kills per set. Croteau also notched a team-high 112 digs during conference action for a 4.00 digs per set average and added 26 service aces against the Blazers conference slate, also a team best mark.
Jennifer Rego (Fall River, Mass.) vaulted herself into the
record books during the 2011 season. Rego dished out 475 assists
this year and amassed 823 for her career, placing her third on the
program’s all-time assists list. Primarily an outside hitter
during her first three seasons, Rego totaled 366 kills during her
career (fifth on the program’s all-time list) and totaled 676
digs during four seasons with the Blazers which is second on
Elms’ all-time digs list. Rego also registered 146 service
aces to become four on the program’s all-time aces list.
Outside hitter, Christina Martin (Chicopee, Mass.), who ranks fourth on Elms’ all-time kills list (411), smashed a second-best 199 kills during the 2011 campaign and was second on the team in digs with 252. She is now fifth on the Blazers’ all-time digs list with 545 digs.
In just two seasons, middle hitter Rachel Cowan
(Ellington, Conn.) has notched 53 total blocks and is in a
three-way tie for third on the program’s all-time blocks
list.
In addition to competing in the NECC, the Blazers are also members
of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
