About The Team
Established in 1986, the women's soccer team has enjoyed
unprecedented success during the past four years. Since 2004, the
Blazers have recorded 48 victories, earned five straight conference
tournament berths, and had players named all-conference a total of
18 times.
The 2008 season was a historic one for the Blazers, who won both the inaugural New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) regular season and tournament titles. The team finished 10-2-1 over its final 13 matches, including a perfect 8-0 mark in NECC regular season play while outscoring the opposition 43-0 in conference play.
Junior forward Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, MA), who registered a team-leading 14 goals and six assists, was named NECC Player of the Year, while sophomore forward Alison Couture (Chicopee, MA) and senior defender Alicia Bobbie (Higganum, CT) both joined Gagne as First Team All-NECC selections. In eight conference games, Couture recorded 10 goals and 24 points, while Bobbie helped lead a defense which did not yield a goal in NECC regular season play.
Junior defender Kelsey Battige (Monson, MA) and
freshman goalkeeper Kelly Callahan (Monson, MA)
both earned Second Team All-NECC honors.
In 1999, the Blazers won the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship - the first soccer title in school history, and in 2006, they posted the program's first-ever 14-win season en route to the regular season conference title.
Elms College's non-conference schedule traditionally includes games against local rivals Mount Holyoke College and Westfield State College, and with the 2009 season, the team will face an upgraded schedule that features Vassar College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), and Union College (NY).
In addition to competing in the NECC, the Blazers are also members of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
