CHICOPEE, MA, Oct. 4, 2006 - Elms College freshman outside hitter Chie Inoue (Kochi, Japan) knocked down a match-high 11 kills and freshman setter Kimberly Phillips (Randolph, MA) added a match-high 26 assists to help spark the Blazers to a hard-fought 3-1 (30-20, 30-25, 27-30, 30-26) win over MCLA in Wednesday night's non-conference women's volleyball match at the Maguire Center.

With the win, Elms College snapped a three-match losing streak to improve to 5-7 overall. MCLA lost its fifth straight match to fall to 2-10 overall.

The Blazers won each of the first two games before MCLA responded by jumping out to a commanding 22-9 lead in the third game.

Elms College, however, responded with a 15-5 run that included five of Inoue's team-high nine service aces.

MCLA then answered with kills from freshman setter Marta Brown (Glens Falls, NY), sophomore outside hitter Catie Lachapelle (Holland, MA) and sophomore outside hitter Ryan Kelly (Staten Island, NY) to send the match to a fourth game.

Neither team led by more than four points in the fourth game, which featured a total of six ties and two lead changes. Elms College broke away from a 24-24 tie with a 6-2 run to seal the match.

The Trailblazers received an outstanding eight-kill, 12-assist and match-high 15-ace effort from Brown, while freshman setter Wendy McLatchy (Rowe, MA) added a team-high nine kills and 11 assists in the losing effort.
