WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL OUTLASTED BY BECKER, 3-2
CHICOPEE, MA, Sept. 27, 2006 - Elms College freshman outside hitter Samantha Sitek (Belchertown, MA) knocked down a collegiate career-high 13 kills and added 12 digs, but visiting Becker College had three players post 10 or more kills, including a match-high 16 from sophomore setter Amber Ramey (Newport, RI) as the Hawks held on for a thrilling 3-2 (30-22, 29-31, 31-29, 25-30, 16-14) win over the Blazers in Wednesday night's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's volleyball match at the Maguire Center.
Becker posted its third win in its last four matches to improve to 6-6 overall, 3-1 NAC. Elms College, meanwhile, lost for the third time in its last four matches as it fell to 4-5 overall, 2-2 NAC.
Wednesday night's match, which went an Elms College program-record 2 hours and 9 minutes, featured a total of 31 ties and 21 lead changes, including seven ties and five lead changes in the deciding fifth game.
Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Pinak (Buffalo, NY) had 15 kills, five aces and a pair of block solos, while freshman setter Jade Vega (Milford, MA) added 10 kills, five aces and 18 digs for the Hawks in the victory.
The Blazers received a collegiate career-high 12 kills from
freshman opposite Amanda Konsewicz (Westfield,
MA), freshman setter Kimberly Phillips (Randolph,
MA) handed out a collegiate career-high 45 assists, and
freshman outside hitter Chie Inoue (Kochi, Japan)
registered nine kills and a collegiate career-high 23 digs in the
losing effort.
Elms College returns to conference play on Saturday, September
30 when it hosts Mount Ida College and Lasell College in a
quad-match. The first match is set for 10:00 a.m. at the Maguire
Center.
