Women's Basketball Picked Fourth In NECC Preseason Poll
ELMS COLLEGE PICKED FOURTH IN NECC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PRESEASON POLL
ATTLEBORO, MA, Nov. 13, 2008 - The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced its preseason women's basketball coaches poll and Elms College was picked fourth on Thursday afternoon.
The Blazers, who feature nine newcomers on their 13-player roster, totaled 55 points in the NECC's voting.
Becker, a former North Atlantic Conference (NAC) foe of Elms College, tallied 77 points and garnered six of eight first place votes in the nine-team NECC.
The Blazers have decent size and proven experience in the frontcourt with the return of 5-7 senior Paige Schneider (Windsor, CT), 5-9 senior Shauna Sullivan (Chicopee, MA) and 5-10 junior post player Amanda Brogna (Oxford, MA). The three combined for 21.4 points and 17.1 rebounds per game a year ago.
Schneider, who has started 71 of her 76 career games for the Blazers, averaged 6.6 points and 4.9 rebounds last season.
Elms College opens its 2008-09 season on Saturday, November 15 when it hosts Westfield State College.
