BRAVO NAMED NECVA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
JERSEY CITY, NJ, Feb. 7, 2008 - Elms
College freshman outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja,
Puerto Rico) became the first freshman men's
volleyball player in Elms College program-history named North East
Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Rookie of the Week on
Thursday, February 7.
Bravo, who was also named NECVA New England Division Rookie of the Week this past Monday, blasted out a match-high 28 kills to help the Blazers post a thrilling 3-2 (22-30, 30-26, 20-30, 30-26, 15-12) come-from-behind win over Emmanuel last Tuesday night. He then followed with a match-high 23-kill effort to help Elms College to a 3-1 win at Lasell on Friday.
As of the February 7 NECVA statistics report, Bravo ranked fifth in the 39-team conference in kills per game (5.03).
Current interim head coach Byron Bledsoe was the only other player in Elms College team-history to win the conference's top rookie honor when he took home that award in 2006.
Elms College (5-3) is in the midst of a program-record
five-match win streakas it travels to New Jersey City University
for the Gothic Knight Invitational on Saturday, February 9.
