About The Team
In 2011-12, the Elms College men’s basketball team appeared
in its eighth consecutive conference tournament title game and for
the eighth time posted a record of 18 or more wins, finishing this
past season with an 18-10 overall record. For the second time in
three years, the Blazers earned a berth in the Eastern College
Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship.
For 11th-year head coach Ed Silva, the 2011-12 campaign saw him reach the 200-win milestone and post his ninth winning season since taking over the program in 2001.
Elms won six of its final eight games of the 2011-12 regular season and earned the second seed for the third time in as many campaigns in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) postseason tournament. In that tournament, the Blazers earned a first round bye and faced No. 6 Regis College in the semifinals and topped the Pride, 50-45 to advance to its fourth straight NECC tournament title game. Top seed and host Becker College notched a win over the Blazers snapping the program’s streak of seven straight conference championships.
Elms advanced to the ECAC Championship as the third seed and posted a 66-64 victory over Anna Maria College before losing to No. 2 Salve Regina University.
Following the 2011-12 season, junior guard Andre
French (Torrington, Conn.) was named
First Team All-NECC after averaging 15.2 points per game during
Elms' NECC slate and hitting on 36-percent from three-point range
and 84.7-percent from the free throw line. French also averaged 2.8
assists per game and was second in the conference averaging 3.1
steals per game.
Junior forward David McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J.) earned Honorable Mention All-NECC accolades after averaging 9.3 points per game and a team-high 7.7 rebounds per contest during NECC action. McDaniel also added 12 blocked shots and eight steals against league competition this season.
