MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO RANDOLPH-MACON
IN REES JEWELERS CHRISTMAS CLASSIC CHAMPIONSHIP

Box score

ASHLAND, VA, Dec. 30, 2007 - Elms College sophomore point guard Juan Galdon (Holyoke, MA) dropped in a team-high 19 points, but host Randolph-Macon had four players reach double figures, including junior guard David Carlson's (Woodbridge, VA) game-high 27 points, to pull away to a 94-70 non-conference men's basketball win over the Blazers in the championship game of the Rees Jewelers Christmas Classic at Crenshaw Gymnasium.

Elms College saw its four-game winning streak snapped as it fell to 8-2. Randolph-Macon won its fifth straight and improved to 7-2.

Galdon, who was named to the All-Tournament team, knocked down 5 of 11 shots from the field and 8 of 10 free throws in 28 minutes.

Junior guard Aswad Thomas (Hartford, CT) was limited to just four points and played with four fouls, but was named as Elms College's other All-Tournament team selection.

The host Yellow Jackets raced out to a 50-35 halftime lead thanks in large part to a sizzling 18 of 28 (64.3-percent) shooting in the first half.

Freshman center Juan Alverio (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) netted 17 points for the Blazers, who were limited to 35.8-percent shooting (24 of 67) from the field.

Elms College plays the first of five straight home games when it hosts Brandeis University on Monday, January 7. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Maguire Center.
