BASEBALL FALLS AT WILLIAMS, 14-2

Box score

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA, April 3, 2008 - Elms College freshman catcher Carm Bonavita (Springfield, MA) went 2 for 2, but Williams College used a seven-run, sixth inning to pull away to a 14-2 win over the Blazers in Thursday's non-conference baseball game at Bobby Coombs Field.

Elms College lost its third straight game and fell to 3-10 overall, while Williams improved to 13-5.

The Blazers jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first when senior catcher Joe Sawa (Chicopee, MA) delivered a RBI groundout to plate senior center fielder Joe Ferry (Palmer, MA), who opened the game with a leadoff triple.

The host Ephs plated single runs in the first, second and third innings before adding three more runs in the fourth to build a 6-1 lead.

Williams then put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth with a seven-run inning that included five hits.

The Blazers plated their only other run on an infield error in the eighth.

Elms College is slated to open North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play when it hosts Thomas on Saturday, April 5. Game one is set for 1:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Stadium.
