BASEBALL FALLS TO JOHNSON & WALES, 12-6

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI, March 21, 2008 - Elms College freshman shortstop Brendan Cordeiro (Berkley, MA) went 4 for 5 and junior pitcher RJ Vassallie (Long Branch, NJ) threw five solid innings, but Johnson & Wales eventually pulled away to a 12-6 win over the Blazers in Friday's non-conference baseball game at Pierce Field.

With the loss, Elms College fell to 3-8 overall, while Johnson & Wales improved to 4-6.

Vassallie allowed just three earned runs and struck out six over the first five innings. The Wildcats, however, then erupted for three runs in the sixth, and two more in both the seventh and eighth innings.

Freshman second baseman Hector Roche (Bronx, NY) smacked a solo home run in the eighth inning for the Blazers, who plated four more runs in the ninth inning.

Elms College returns to non-conference play on Tuesday, March 25 at Westfield State. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
