GAME FACILITIES
Named in honor of Springfield bishop emeritus The Most Reverend Joseph F. Maguire, the Maguire Center for Health, Fitness and Athletics blends the accommodations for athletics, recreation, health fitness, and academics in an inclusive multi-purpose facility.
The Maguire Center includes an aerobics/weight
room, a 25-meter handicapped-accessible six-lane pool, a
wood-floored gymnasium that can host basketball or volleyball
events, an elevated rubberized 100-meter track, a sports medicine
facility, a laundry room, and four locker rooms. The aerobics/
weight room holds a full-line of Cybex weight training machines,
free weights and other multi-purpose apparatus, top-quality Life
stride treadmills and Life cycles, Stairmaster steppers, and a
Precor climber.
The Partyka Natatorium pool serves as both the
home facility of the college's varsity swimming programs, as well
as various other nautilus health classes.
The gymnasium in Berchmans Hall serves as the practice court for the men and women's volleyball programs, physical education classes, and intramurals. The gymnasium's floor is covered with Tera-Flex, often referred to as "sport court," and can easily take the demands placed on it by various sports. This durable, all-purpose floor is one of the best surfaces on which to play volleyball.
The Timothy J. Leary Field, located directly
behind the Maguire Center, serves as the home field for soccer,
field hockey, and lacrosse. Condon Field, located behind Leary
Field, is the softball team's home facility.
The college recently completed a $1.71 million athletic field renovation project to both Leary Field and Condon Field. The project included the construction of a 72x120-yard, multi-use artificial surface field and NCAA-compliant softball field.
The artificial surface field, comprised of Field Turf monofilament
prestige series, includes a Musco lightning system. The new
multipurpose field hosts all practices and games for men and
women's soccer, field hockey and women's lacrosse as well as early
spring outdoor practices for baseball and softball. The college's
physical education classes, intramural programs, and general
student population also use it.
Chicopee Country Club, a short 10-minute drive from
campus, is the home course for the men's golf team. The challenging
18-hole, 6,742-yard, par-71 course consists of four par fives, nine
par fours, and five par threes.
MacKenzie Stadium, a short drive from campus in nearby
Holyoke, serves as the home field for the College's baseball
program. During the 1980s, MacKenzie Stadium played host to the
Holyoke Millers minor league professional franchise and is
currently home to the Holyoke Sox of the New England Collegiate
Baseball League (NECBL). The field offers stadium-style seating and
a state-of-the-art lighting system to host night games.
