Women's Soccer Lose a Tough Battle to Albertus Magnus
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Elms College Women's Soccer traveled to Albertus Magnus College for a conference matchup on Wednesday evening.
BASICS
Score: Elms College 1 | Albertus Magnus College 3
Records: Blazers 8-7-1, 5-5-1 (GNAC) | Falcons 12-2-3, 7-1-3 (GNAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms attempted to get the board early, as senior forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.) would record an early shot that was saved. However, Albertus Magnus would score first on a good shot to put the Blazers at an early disadvantage. Elms would not deterred by this however, but junior forward Kaylee Little (Boston, Mass.), first year forward/midfielder Caitlin Willard (Northampton, Mass.), and sophomore midfielder/defender Jenna McGuire (Shelton, Conn.) would all unsuccessfully record shots to try and even the score. Even though the Blazers came up short during the first half, the Elms defense held strong, thanks to the play of first year goalkeeper Sofia Rivers (Hamilton, Ohio). Only down 1-0 at halftime, the Blazers would feel excited about their prospects for a comeback tie or win.
McDonough and Little would record early shots after halftime, still to no avail. Elms became further frustrated by two quick second half goals by the Falcons. With lots of work to do, the Blazers quickly got on the board, as senior forward Jordan Lee (Hampden, Mass.) scored a goal, assisted by junior forward/midfielder Emily Basua (Oxnard, Cali.) to cut into the Albertus lead. Basua would record a couple of late shots, but the Falcons defense held strong and handed Elms a tough 3-1 conference loss.
