HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms would start the game off with the offensive, taking five shots in the opening 12-minutes from first year forward/midfielder Caitlin Willard (Northampton, Mass.), junior midfielder Lilli Ramos (Springfield, Mass.), and senior forward Jordan Lee (Hampden, Mass.), but one of the five shots would find the back of the net off of the foot of senior forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.), assisted by senior midfielder Daniella Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.). Dean would take a shot during that time, but first year goalkeeper Sofia Rivers (Hamilton, Ohio) would make the save. As the opening half continued, the Blazers offense would try their best to add to their lead, with additional shots from Ramos, Lee, McDonough, and junior defender McKenna Moore (Hartford, Conn.), along with two more saves from Rivers, and would go into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.
As the second half began, Elms would continue their efforts to add to their lead, taking an additional 13 shots from junior forward/midfielder Emily Basua (Oxnard, Calif.), Ramos, McDonough, Willard, sophomore midfielder/defender Jenna McGuire (Shelton, Conn.), first year midfielder/defender Eva Intrieri (Westerly, R.I.), and first year forward Isabel Baidy (Ellington, Conn.). Then in the 80th minute of play, McDonough would score her second goal of the conference matchup, assisted by Basua, and then would complete the hat trick in the 82nd minute with a third goal. Even with the 3-0 lead, the Blazers offense would continue to put pressure on the Bulldogs, with a shot from first year midfielder Giuliana Fortunato (Auburn, Mass.), but the Dean defense would relieve that pressure and Elms would be able to take home the 3-0 conference victory.
