Box Score

CHICOPEE, MA –
Elms College senior goalkeeper Nick Pellegrini (Ludlow, MA) and sophomore goalie Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, MA) collected four saves each, but Amherst College received a goal and an assist from both James Mooney (Princeton, NJ) and Chris Lerner (Canton, MA) to help pace the Lord Jeffs to a 6-0 victory over the Blazers in Tuesday evening’s non-conference men’s soccer game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms slips to 3-10 on the season, while Amherst wins its third straight game and improves to 7-2 overall.

Amherst found the net just 12 minutes in when Chris Skayne (Boxborough, MA) found Mooney with a cross that he touched in for the first goal of the contest and his fifth of the season. The Lord Jeffs caught a break at the 21:17 mark when Elms misplayed a ball that was deflected into the net for an own goal which extended the lead to 2-0.

Four minutes later, Mooney connected with Chris Linsmayer (Denver, CO) who netted his second goal of the season, giving Amherst a 3-0 lead 26 minutes into the first half. From there, Casey McNamara (Montclair, NJ) got in on the action just before the intermission when he scored his first goal of the season off a feed from Lerner.

The Lord Jeffs sustained their pressure in the second stanza, scoring their fifth goal of the contest at the 52:04 mark when Federico Sucre (Caracas, Venezuela) headed the ball into the back of the net off a perfectly placed cross by T.J. Kelley (Walnut Creek, CA).

Amherst capped its scoring when Ryan Conti (Rochester, NY) played a ball to Lerner which he finished with a shot to the right corner of the net for his first score of the season, giving the Lord Jeffs a 6-0 advantage.

Amherst allowed just three shots on net for the game, while firing 15 of their own in the winning effort.

Amherst now leads the all-time series 2-0, and has managed to keep the Blazers off the scoreboard for the second time in as many tries.

Elms returns to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play on Saturday, Oct. 12 when Newbury makes the trek to Chicopee, MA. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at 1:00 p.m.
