CHICOPEE, MA - Elms College senior goalkeeper
Nick Pellegrini (Ludlow, MA) collected three
saves, but Newbury College’s Hector Abudoj
(Tegucigalpa) broke a 0-0 tie when he netted what proved
to be the game-winning goal in the 85th minute to help lift the
Nighthawks to a thrilling 1-0 victory over the Blazers in Saturday
afternoon’s New England Collegiate Conference (NECC)
men’s soccer game during Homecoming weekend.
With the loss, Elms moves to 3-11 on the season, 1-4 in the
conference. Newbury, winners in four of their last six contests,
improve to 4-10 overall, 4-1 in league play.
After 84 minutes of back-and-forth action, Newbury finally broke
the stalemate when Andy Osei (Worcester, MA) found
Abudoj with a pass that he placed into the net to give the
Nighthawks a 1-0 lead.
Elms was not able to score the equalizer in the final four minutes
of play, allowing Newbury to hang on for the hard-fought
victory.
The Nighthawks outshot the Blazers 22-14 in the win, while Newbury
goalkeeper William McNally (Grafton, MA) picked up
four saves.
Elms sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Sullivan (Agawam,

led the Blazers’ attack with five shots in the losing
effort.

against Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). That game is
