Box Score
NEW HAVEN, CT – Elms College junior
midfielder Courtney Johnson (Belchertown, MA)
knocked in his first goal of the season, but Albertus Magnus’
Jamal Howard (West Haven, CT) punched in two of
his own to help lift the Falcons to a 4-1 victory over the Blazers
in Thursday afternoon’s non-conference men’s soccer
game at Celentano Field.
With the loss, Elms falls to 1-4 overall, while Albertus Magnus
improves to 3-1-1 on the season.
After Howard got Albertus Magnus off to a quick start, placing a
rebounded shot in the back of the net, Johnson blasted a free kick
past goalkeeper Gerald O’Connor (Hamden, CT)
from 30 yards out to knot the score at 1-1 in the 25th minute of
the game. From there, Howard put the Falcons back on top with a
score off a Taylor Sasloe (Norwalk, CT) pass from
15 yards away at the 36:09 mark.
Five minutes into the second period, Sasloe recorded another assist
when he found Mike DaSilva (Stratford, CT), who
finished the scoring play to give the Falcons a 3-1 edge.
Kyle Kelly (Stratford, CT) capped the scoring in
the 55th minute when he corralled a Steven Zapata (Hamden,
CT) throw-in and then found the back of the net.
Albertus Magnus outshot the Blazers 16-6.
Elms College returns to Leary Field on Saturday, Sept. 19 when it
hosts Wheelock in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC)
opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
