Field Hockey Could Not Out Swim Simmons in Conference Play

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Field Hockey team hosted Simmons University for their Elms Athletics Friends and Family Day and a conference game on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first quarter would begin with Simmons taking the first shot, but it would be saved by senior goaltender Kaitlyn Lynes (South Hadley, Mass.). Throughout the quarter, the Sharks would take nine shots, Lynes making four more saves and the Elms defense recording three blocked shots, but Simmons would be able to score the first goal. In the second quarter, the Sharks would take three quick shots, with Lynes stopping the first attempt, but the next two would find the back of the net. The Simmons offense would continue to put pressure on the Blazers, but Lynes would make an additional three saves and the Elms defense would block one shot. As the clock hit zero for the halftime break, the Sharks would hold onto their 3-0 lead.

The third quarter would start with the two conference foes trading possession, but Simmons would continue to control the scoreboard, adding a fourth goal. Throughout the quarter, Lynes would make three more saves and the defense would block two shots. The fourth and final quarter would begin with a fifth goal by the Sharks, followed by a sixth goal. Throughout the quarter, Lynes would make four more saves, but Simmons would hold onto their lead and secure the 6-0 conference victory over Elms.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Lynes would make 16 saves of the 22 shots she faced.

  • The Elms defense would block six shots during the game.

 

UP NEXT: The Elms College Field Hockey team will host Gordon College for their annual Senior Night on Wednesday, October 22nd for a non-conference game at 7 pm at Leary Field.
