Women's Lacrosse Loses to Regis in a Close Battle

WESTON, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Regis College for a conference game on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first quarter, senior midfielder Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, N.Y.) would win a draw control and take two shots on goal. Then moments later, first year attack Chloe Sullivan (Hampden, Mass.) would score the first goal of the game. Then minutes later, Cronin would win a second draw control and junior midfielder Rachel Dort (Chicopee, Mass.) would score her first goal of the game. As the quarter would continue, Dort and Cronin would take a combined five shots, and junior goalkeeper Marisa LaRocque (Agawam, Mass.) would make a save, until Dort would score again with a free position shot. Then as the quarter would wind down, LaRocque would make a save and Elms would end the first quarter with a 3-0 lead. The second quarter would begin with Regis scoring two quick goals, as sophomore attack Lily Sheridan (Ashby, Mass.) would win a draw control and Dort would add a shot, but the Pride would tie the game. As the quarter would continue, LaRocque would make a save and a shot on goal from Dort, but Regis would take the lead scoring two more goals, to go into the halftime break with a 5-3 lead.

The third quarter would start with the Pride scoring first, then Dort would win the next draw control and would take a shot, but Regis would score another goal. Then as the quarter would continue, Cronin would win two draw controls, the Blazers would add three shots from Dort and Sheridan, and Cronin would score a goal. Unfortunately, the Pride would add another pair of goals. Then in the final minutes of the third quarter, Dort would take a free position shot, LaRocque would make a save, Sheridan would win a draw control, but Regis would add a goal to extend their lead 10-4. The Blazers would start with position in the fourth quarter, Dort would take the first shot, then Cronin would follow with a goal. Graduate student defender Angelina Cellucci (Sicklerville, N.J.) would win a draw control, LaRocque would make a save, and Sheridan would add a shot, but the Pride would once again add a goal. Seconds later, Cronin would score her third goal of the afternoon, followed by Dort winning a draw control. Then in the final moments of the conference game, LaRocque would save a free position shot and Dort would take a shot, but Regis would score a final goal to defeat Elms 12-6.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
