Women's Lacrosse Hosts Lasell on Senior Day

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team hosted Lasell University for a conference game and their annual Senior Day on Saturday at Leary Field.

PRIOR TO THE GAME

The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team hosted their annual Senior Night, where they honored their three seniors; midfielder Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, N.Y.), attack Katherine Ingram (Chicopee, Mass.) and attack MacKenzie Talavera (Manchester, Conn.), and junior defender/attack Shea Barron (Wallingford, Conn.), along with their loved ones.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Lasell would begin the first quarter by taking the early advantage by scoring in the opening minute. As the quarter would continue, junior goalkeeper Marisa LaRocque (Agawam, Mass.) would make five saves, the Elms defense would block a shot, but the Lasers would add three goals to extend their lead, 4-0. Shortly thereafter, Cronin would connect a pass to sophomore attack Lily Sheridan (Ashby, Mass.) for the first goal for the Blazers of the afternoon. Then in the closing minutes of the quarter, junior midfielder Rachel Dort (Chicopee, Mass.) would win a draw and take a free position shot, but Lasell would keep their three-goal lead, 4-1. In the second quarter, the Lasers would quickly score in the first minute, followed by two saves by LaRocque, but the Lasers would score their sixth goal of the game. As the quarter would move forward, Cronin would win a draw control, but Lasell would continue to add to their lead scoring a pair of goals. Then in the final minutes of the half, LaRocque would record two saves, shots would be made from Dort, Cronin, and Dort would win a draw control, but Lasell would extend their lead to 11-1, until Cronin would score her first goal of the game, following a shot by Dort. in the final seconds of the half, Dort would win a draw control and take a shot, but the Lasers would go into the halftime break with a 11-2 lead.

Dort would win the first draw control of the third quarter and the Elms defense would block a shot, but Lasell would take control of the ball and score two goals moments later. Then as the quarter would continue, the Blazers defense would block a shot, LaRocque made back-to-back saves, and Cronin would score her second goal of the game. Then in the final minute of the quarter, the Lasers would score a goal to bring the score to 14-3. In the fourth quarter, Lasell would continue to put offensive pressure on Elms, with LaRocque making a save, but the Lasers would score two goals in the first five minutes of the quarter. Then after winning a draw control, Cronin would take a shot, followed by a block shot by the Blazers defense, and then score her third goal of the game. Then as the clock began to wind down, the Elms offense would see five shots by Barron, Sheridan, first year attack Chloe Sullivan (Hampden, Mass.) and Cronin, along with a save from LaRocque. Unfortunately, Lasell would add one more to defeat the Blazers 17-4.

  • Sheridan would add a goal, with three shots, two ground balls, and a caused turnover.

  • LaRocque would make 13 saves of the 30 shots she faced.

  • Baron would add a shot, three ground balls, and a caused turnover

  • Cellucci would make two caused turnovers and a ground ball

  • Sullivan add a shot

  • Olsen and Talavera would each record a ground ball.

  • Ingram recorded a caused turnover.
