HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter would begin by seeing Elms take the early offensive advantage, after sophomore attack Lily Sheridan (Ashby, Mass.) would win the opening draw control, that would lead to junior midfielder Rachel Dort (Chicopee, Mass.) scoring the first goal of the game. As the quarter would continue, senior midfielder Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, N.Y.) would take her first shot, but Mitchell would equalize the game 1-1. Shortly thereafter, Sheridan would win a second draw control, that would lead to a shot by Dort and then a goal from Cronin to take the lead. Through the remainder of the first quarter, the Mariners would score twice more, but the Blazers would see shots by Cronin, Dort, and senior attack Katherine Ingram (Chicopee, Mass.), until Cronin would score her second goal of the evening to tie the game, 3-3, in the final minute of the first quarter. The second quarter would see the two conference opponents battle offensive early, with Dort, Ingram, Cronin, and Sheridan taking a combined nine shots for Elms. While on the other end of the field, junior goalkeeper Marisa LaRocque (Agawam, Mass.) made three saves, but Mitchell would go into the halftime break with a 4-3 lead.
In the third quarter, the Blazers would not hesitate to bring the momentum in their favor, as Cronin would score an equalizing goal in the opening minutes of the half, followed by a goal from Dort soon thereafter. Mitchell would tie the game seconds later, but the Elms offense would continue to put pressure on their opposition, with Cronin and Dort continuing to put shots on target, until Dort would score with less than eight minutes left in the quarter. Then in the final minutes of the third quarter, Cronin would score a goal to give the Blazers a two-goal lead going into the final 15-minutes of play. In the fourth and final quarter, LaRocque would make two saves and the Elms offense would continue to put pressure on their conference rivals, with Cronin scoring three goals in a five-minute window. Then in the final minutes of play, first year attack Chloe Sullivan (Hampden, Mass.) would connect a pass to junior defender/attack Shea Barron (Wallingford, Conn.) for the final goal of the game, which would secure the 11-5 victory in the Blazers favor for their first win of the season.
