Men's Basketball Defeats Colby-Sawyer 56-52 on the Road

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Elms College Men's Basketball team traveled to Colby-Sawyer College for a conference game on Saturday afternoon.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 56 | Colby-Sawyer College 52
Records: Blazers 8-10, 2-3 (GNAC) | Chargers 1-16, 0-4 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Elms started the half strong, scoring the first points on a layup by senior forward/guard RJ Mayfield (Springfield, Mass.), assisted by first year forward Jaedon Bogar (Aubrey, Texas). Bogar was active throughout the half, contributing multiple offensive and defensive rebounds and scoring several key baskets, including two free throws and a jump shot. Mayfield also added to the inside scoring with layups and an offensive rebound leading to points. Junior guard Andrew Ciaglo (Hadley, Mass.) and senior guard/forward Max Rolnick (Vaughan, Ontario) provided perimeter scoring, combining for at least one made three-pointer and an assist on a three-point shot by junior guard Arik Dagan (Southbury, Conn.). The Blazers would become more aggressive on the boards, with multiple offensive rebounds from Bogar, Mayfield, Dagan, and sophomore guard Jack Lo (Harahan, La.), which led to second-chance points. The team also forced turnovers and recorded steals, particularly from Bogar and Dagan, creating fast-break opportunities. At halftime, Elms had scored 26-points going into the halftime break, with notable contributions in points in the paint, offensive rebounds, and free-throw conversions from Bogar and Dagan.

The Blazers would come out of halftime down 26-31 but quickly took control of the game with strong contributions from junior guard DJ Watkins (Union, N.J.), Dagan, and Ciaglo. Dagan hit multiple 3-pointers, including key shots assisted by Ciaglo, while Watkins and Mayfield consistently scored in the paint, converting layups off offensive rebounds. Bogar dominated the boards, securing both offensive and defensive rebounds and adding several layups and free throws. Elms' defense was active, generating steals and blocks that created transition opportunities and limited Colby-Sawyer's second-chance points. Free throws from Ciaglo, Mayfield, senior center/guard/forward Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, Mass.), and Watkins in the final minutes helped extend the lead, and the team outscored the Chargers 30-21 in the half. By the final seconds, the Blazers would hold a 56-52 advantage and would take home the conference victory, fueled by effective interior scoring, timely perimeter shooting, and strong defensive pressure.
