Men's Basketball Stings Vermont State-Lyndon with a 103-78 Victory at Home
CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Men's Basketball team hosted Vermont State University, Lyndon in a non-conference game on Wednesday evening at Picknelly Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms would begin the game by scoring the first two baskets from senior guard/forward Aden Goffe (New Haven, Conn.) and senior forward/guard RJ Mayfield (Springfield, Mass.), assisted by junior guard DJ Watkins (Union, N.J.). Vermont State-Lyndon would score three baskets, but the Blazers would continue to score, with first year forward Jaedon Bogar (Aubrey, Texas) making a layup and senior guard/forward Max Rolnick (Vaughan, Ontario) would make a three-point shot, followed by a free throw shot by Goffe and a Mayfield jumper. The Hornets would continue their efforts to take their first lead of the evening, Elms would continue to stack upon their lead with the assistance of a layup by Mayfield, a breakaway steal and layup from Goffe, a three-point shot by Mayfield, a layup from Watkins, and a steal by Rolnick. As the Blazers would continue to add to their lead, Mayfield would make a layup and two three-point shots, Goffe added a jump shot and a pair of layups and free throws, a three-point shot from sophomore forward/guard Daniel Villanueva (Seymour, Conn.), Watkins recording a pair of layups and a three-pointer, a pair of tip-ins by senior center/guard/forward Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, Mass.) and first year forward/center Rayquan Anderson (Waterbury, Conn.), and a layup and a block from Bogar, to go into the halftime break with a 53-31 lead.
The second half would start by VTSU-Lyndon scoring first, but Mayfield would make a steal and breakaway for a dunk. Mayfield would later score on a jump shot, but the Hornets would add 13-points to trim the Blazers lead to 15-points. As VTSU-Lyndon would try to get back into the game, Watkins would make a jump shot and a three-point shot, followed by a tip-in from Mayfield and Cancel would add a layup and a three-point shot. As the second half would continue, Elms would continue to add to their lead, with Watkins adding a tip-in and a three-point shot, Cancel making two steals and a free throw, and Bogar making a steal, along with a pair of layups by Goffe and Anderson making a free throw. The Hornets would continue their efforts to gain some offensive momentum, but the Blazers would continue to add to their lead with the help of a pair of free throws by Cancel, Mayfield adding two steals, Anderson making a layup, a dunk, a pair of free throws, and a layup from Watkins, a steal by first year guard Jamie Lawson (Charlotte, N.C.), and a layup by senior forward Adam Sarlan (Chicopee, Mass.). Then in the final minutes of play, Elms would break the 100-point mark after a layup by Goffe, two free throws and a jump shot from first year forward Donel Kabongo-Mutombo (Lynn, Mass.), and additional free throws by Villanueva and Bogar, to win the game 103-78 at home.
