Men's Hoops Face-off Against Brown in Exhibition Game

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Elms College Men's Basketball team traveled to play Brown University in a mid-season exhibition game on Saturday evening.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 34 | Brown University 115
Records: Blazers 5-4, 0-0 (GNAC) | Bears 6-4, 0-0 (IVY)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Elms would start the exhibition contest by scoring the opening basket, when junior guard DJ Watkins (Union, N.J.) would connect a pass to senior center/forward/guard Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, Mass.) for a three-point shot. The Blazers would continue their efforts to control the game's opening moments after Watkins would make a steal to hold on to their early lead. But Brown would then tie the game with a three-point shot and would then go on to add five points to their lead. Senior forward/guard RJ Mayfield (Springfield, Mass.) would follow up with a layup, after receiving a pass from Cancel in the fourth minute of play. As the half continued, the Bears would continue to add to their lead, but after a jump shot by Mayfield, the Blazers would struggle offensively. Elms would look to their defensive structure to create opportunities, with the assistance of a block by Mayfield, but Brown would continue to make successful shots and drive their way to the basket. The Blazers would be able to add points to the scoreboard, with the help from a free throw by first year guard Jamie Lawson (Charlotte, N.C.), layups from sophomore forward Aiden Dunlap (Chestertown, Md.) and Lawson, assisted by first year forward Jaedon Bogar (Aubrey, Texas), a pair of jump shots by Mayfield and Dunlap, and a three-point shot from Watkins, along with a pair of steals from Watkins and Cancel. But the Bears would go into the halftime break with a 63-19 lead over Elms.

Brown would come out of the break looking to continue to add baskets to their large lead, but the Blazers would continue to put their best foot forward against their Ivy League opponents. The Bears would score the first two baskets of the half, but Elms would see Lawson make a layup, after receiving a pass from sophomore forward/guard Daniel Villanueva (Seymour, Conn.), and he, senior forward Adam Sarlan (Chicopee, Mass.), and junior guard Andrew Ciaglo (Hadley, Mass.) would each record a steal moments later. The latter would lead to Cancel connecting a pass to first year forward/center Rayquan Anderson (Waterbury, Conn.) for a layup. Midway through the half, Bogar would block a layup attempt, junior guard Travis Jordan (Springfield, Mass.) would make a steal, and Lawson would find an open senior guard/forward Max Rolnick (Vaughan, Ontario) for a three-point shot, but Brown would continue to control the game on both ends of the floor. In the closing moments, the Blazers would see Mayfield add a steal, Cancel make a three-point shot, assisted by Watkins, a layup from Dunlap, and a final three-point shot by Rolnick, after receiving another pass from Lawson, but the Bears would secure the 115-34 win over Elms.
