Men's Soccer Stings Vermont State-Lyndon with a Victory at Home

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Men's Soccer team hosted Vermont State University-Lyndon in a non-conference game at Leary Field on Saturday afternoon.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 8 | Vermont State University-Lyndon 0
Records: Blazers 2-0-0, 0-0-0 (GNAC) | Hornets 0-1-0, 0-0-0 (NAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blazers started out the game aggressively, putting a bunch of shots on the Lyndon goal in an effort to take an early lead. Elms broke through early when sophomore forward Ramaul Morgan, Jr. (Port Chester, N.Y.) scored a goal that was assisted by senior forward Jacobo Molina Ferrer (Valencia, Spain) to put the Blazers up 1-0. Lyndon struggled to defend the Blazers after allowing this first goal, and Elms scored a plethora of goals in the next couple of minutes, courtesy of junior forward Dru Fairthorne (Ludlow, Mass.) and Ferrer to put Elms up 4-0. The Blazers defended well and continued to push the ball offensively, which resulted in another goal by senior forward Leonardo De Moura (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) to put Elms up 5-0.

The Blazers continued their dominance after halftime, as De Moura scored right away to give Elms a 6-0 advantage and ultimately put the game out of reach for Lyndon. The Hornets could not get past the Elms defense and failed to even muster shots on net. The Blazers took advantage of these breakdowns and continued to pour on the goals, as sophomore forward/defense Ibrahim Ayouba (Springfield, Mass.) and junior midfielder Jahmai Dixon (Duncans Trelawny, Jamaica) both scored late to give Elms a solid 8-0 win to put the Blazers at 2-0 to start the year.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Fairthorne and De Moura would each score two goals.

  • Dixon, Molina Ferrer, Ayouba, and Morgan, Jr. would each tally up a goal for Elms in the contest.
