Men's Soccer Loses a Tough Battle to the Cadets of Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Elms College Men's Soccer team traveled to Norwich University in a conference matchup on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blazers fell behind early again less than twenty minutes into the game, as Norwich took advantage of a lapse in the Elms defense to go up 1-0. Immediately after, senior forward Jacobo Molina Ferrer (Valencia, Spain) would score a goal, assisted by junior forward Dru Fairthorne (Ludlow, Mass.) to even the score. Throughout the remainder of the hafl, the Blazers would continue their efforts to get their second goal with additional shots by senior midfielder Pajorn Drysdale (Nantucket, Mass.) and junior midfielder Andrew Velasquez (Ellington, Conn.), but both attempts proving unsuccessful. Sophomore goalkeeper Jack Bousquet (Clinton, Conn.) would make a key save before halftime to keep the score even, and Elms went into the break feeling good about their prospects for a potential win.

Bousquet continued to play well in net for the Blazers in the second half, but Elms could not muster much on the offensive end, and struggled defensively. Late in the half, the Blazers committed a crucial foul that led to a Norwich goal via penalty kick. After their goal, Norwich buckled down on defense, causing the Blazers to play desperately on offense. The Blazers were unable to control the ball late and gave up a third goal to the Cadets, which resulted in a tough 3-1 defeat for Elms.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Molina Ferrer would score the lone goal for Elms with two shots.

• Fairthorne would add an assist and two shots.

• Bousquet would make five saves of the eight shots he faced.

• Drysdale and A.Velasquez would shoot a combined three shots.
