PRIOR TO THE GAME

The Elms College Baseball team hosted their annual Senior Day, where they honored their nine seniors; infielder Felix Gutierrez (Holyoke, Mass.), outfielder Michael Klein (Syosset, N.Y.), pitcher Devin Kazarian (Westerly, R.I.), outfielder Camron Watkins (East Haddam, Conn.), pitcher Trevor Nohilly (Bristol, Conn.), outfielder George Chaya Jr. (Methuon, Mass.), catcher Blake Bastos (Mineola, N.Y.), catcher Nick Kreuzuer (Suffield, Conn.), and pitcher Henry Rondon (Ansonia, Conn.), along with their loved ones.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
Rondon would start the opening game for Elms, where he would pitch two innings. The Blazers would start off down two runs early, but in the second inning, Kreuzer would hit a one-run single to score sophomore utility player Andrew Ciaglo (Hadley, Mass.) to cut into the deficit. Both Kazarian and Nohilly would come into the game to relieve Rondon, pitching a combined three innings with a strikeout. Mitchell would score four runs in the ensuing inning to extend their lead out to 6-1. However, in the fourth and fifth innings, the Blazers scored an onslaught of runs to make the game interesting. Graduate student infielder AJ Cook (Mendon, Mass) recorded a two-run triple to score both Kreuzer and sophomore infielder Griffen Levesque (Agawam, Mass). Cook would then score off of Gutierrez a one-run single to make the game 6-4. Cook continued to do damage in the fifth inning, recording a three-run triple this time to score Kreuzer, Levesque, and Bastos to take the lead 7-6. Cook would then score off of a passed ball, giving the Blazers a two run lead late in the game. After this, the Elms bullpen would be unable to provide any relief for the Blazers, as sophomore Luke Guyer (East Granby, Conn.), first year Sal Ortiz (Springfield, Mass.), and junior Colby Arnold (Waterford, Conn.) allowed a combined eight runs to give Mitchell back the lead 14-7. The Mariners continued to score and finished the game with sixteen runs, handing Elms a 16-8 loss in the first game of the doubleheader.

Game 2
First year pitcher Brycen Diaz (Andrews, TX) would take the ball in Game 2 for the Blazers. Elms would start down again early, as Mitchell would start the game up 13-0 and blank Elms through the first six innings. Diaz, junior pitcher Justin Saad (Waterford, Conn.) and sophomore pitcher Ryan Ziegler (Uncasville, Conn.) all struggled during the game against the Mariners offense, but the trio would be able to throw a combined six strikeouts to try to hold off their opposition. Cook kept up his great day with a run batted-in in the sixth inning driving in sophomore catcher Hadyn Sweaney (Lake St. Louis, Mo.). Following their first run, Gutierrez would record a one-run single to score junior infielder Chase Prestia (Newington, Conn.) to give Elms two runs. However, this would be the extent of the Elms scoring for the day, as the Blazers fell 15-2.
