Baseball Outshined by Lasell in Conference Play
HOLYOKE, Mass. - The Elms College Baseball team hosted Lasell University for a conference game on Sunday afternoon for their RESPECT Game at Mackenzie Stadium.
BASICS
Score: Elms College 1 | Lasell University 9
Records: Blazers 9-16, 4-6 (GNAC) | Lasers 18-7, 7-1 (GNAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms would have senior pitcher Henry Rondon (Ansonia, Conn.) on the hill, where he would pitch eight innings, with eight strikeouts and six scoreless innings. In the bottom of the first inning, the Blazers would see graduate student infielder AJ Cook (Mendon, Mass.) and senior outfielder Camron Watkins (East Haddam, Conn.) reach base, but they would not capitalize their efforts with runs. The two conference foes would continue to battle, but in the top of third, Lasell would score three runs to earn the lead, but would get out of the jam with a 6-4-3 double play from Cook to sophomore infielder Griffen Levesque (Agawam, Mass.) to first year infielder/pitcher Brycen Diaz (Andrews, Texas). As the game continued, the Elms offense would continue their efforts to get runners on base. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Blazers would record three singles off the bats of first year infielder/pitcher Jayden Maynard (Enfield, Conn.), Levesque, and Cook, but once again those hits would fail to result in runs on the scoreboard. However, the Elms defense would continue to support Rondon, keeping the Lasers offense at until the bottom of the eighth when they would add a run. In the top of the ninth inning, graduate student pitcher Kyle Sebastyanski (Auburn, Mass.) would come into the game to relieve Rondon, but Lasell would control the narrative, adding five runs to their lead. In the bottom half of the final inning, the Blazers would see Diaz hit a double to right field and he would then cross the plate after sophomore utility player/pitcher Andrew Ciaglo (Hadley, Mass.) would reach base on an error, but the Lasers would hold off Elms with a 9-1 victory.
