Women's Volleyball Takes a Set on the Road at Emmanuel
BOSTON, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Volleyball team traveled to Emmanuel College for a conference match on Tuesday evening.
BASICS
Score: Elms College 1 (13, 25, 20, 8) | Emmanuel College 3 (25, 22, 25, 25)
Records: Blazers 8-16, 1-11 (GNAC) | Saints 5-20, 3-7 (GNAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening set would start by Elms scoring the first point when senior Jaylen Holman (Las Cruces, N.M.) would make a service ace. Unfortunately, Emmanuel out-scored the Blazers 16-7, including a nine-point rally, where Elms would only score on errors by the Saints. Even with the deficit, the Blazers would continue their efforts with junior Lilliana Simmons (Springfield, Mass.) adding two kills and a kill from senior Angelica Marks (Miami, Fla.). Unfortunately, Emmanuel would win the set 25-13.
The second set would begin with Holman recording a kill and a service ace. As the set would continue, Elms would see 13 kills by seniors Alysha Izquierdo (Holyoke, Mass.), Alejandra Marin (P.R.), Marks, Simmons, sophomore Olivia Rivera (Springfield, Mass.), and graduate student Alyssa Moore (Ludlow, Mass.), along with service aces from Marks and Moore, and a block by Rivera. The Saints would try to add points to their side of the scoreboard, but the Blazers would win the set 25-22 and would even the score one set each.
The third set would once again see Holman score on a service ace, followed by a kill from Izquierdo and a kill by Simmons to help Elms take a 5-1 lead. As the set continued, Marin, Marks, Simmons, and Izquierdo would each add kills, but Emmanuel would rally back and take the lead. The Blazers would see a block from Marks and a kill by Holman, but the Saints would win the set 25-20.
The fourth and final set would begin with Emmanuel taking an 8-2 lead. Elms would record three kills from Izquierdo and Marin, along with a block by Izquierdo and Rivera, but the Saints would win the set 25-8 and would defeat the Blazers the match three sets to one.
