CHICOPPE, MA - Elms College senior Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, MA) netted two goals to propel the Blazers to a 3-0 victory over Mitchell College in Wednesday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women’s soccer game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms extends its winning streak to five games to improve to 9-7-1 on the season, 6-1 in league play. The win also secures the second seed and a first round bye in the 2009 NECC  Championship tournament.

With the loss Mitchell falls to 5-10 overall, 5-2 in conference action.

After a scoreless first period, the Blazers scored three goals in a span of seven minutes to secure the victory. Sophomore Jen Killion (Cambridge, MA) corralled a booming pass from senior Serina Percoski (Westfield, MA), and drilled the ball into the back of the net for what would prove to be the game-winner in the 65th minute of the contest.

Gagne extended the Elms lead to 2-0 in the 68th minute with her 14th goal of the season, and then delivered her second goal of the game at the 71:32 mark when she broke away from the Mariners' defense and caught sophomore goalie Rachel Cunningham (New Hartford, CT) off-guard, launching the ball to the far right corner for her 15th goal of the season.

Gagne and Killion paced the Blazers' offensive effort, tallying eight and five shots respectively. Eight other Elms players recorded shots as the Blazers out-shot the Mariners 22-6 on the afternoon.

Elms freshman net-minder Molly Corse (Bernardston, MA) recorded three saves to highlight her sixth shutout of the season.

Cunningham finished with eight saves in the losing effort for Mitchell.

Elms concludes its regular season slate when it travels to Union College (NY) on Friday, Oct. 30 for a non-conference contest. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
