Women's Lacrosse Lose in a Nail-Biter in Home Opener

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team hosted Regis College in conference action on Saturday afternoon at Leary Field for their home opener and conference opener of the 2025 season.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 9 | Regis College 10
Records: Blazers 0-2, 0-1 (GNAC) | Pride 2-2, 1-0 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Elms would begin their home opener with an early 2-0 lead, after first attack Lily Sheridan (Ashby, Mass.) would score in the opening minute of play, followed by a goal from first midfielder Ali Sullivan (Chicopee, Mass.) after receiving a pass from junior attack/midfielder Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, N.Y.), both goals being their first in their collegiate careers. Regis would score their first goal on their next possession, but senior midfielder/attack Greta Frankwicz (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) would score back-to-back goals to close out the opening quarter, with the Blazers holding a 4-1 lead. The second quarter would be controlled by the Pride, after their offense would score four goals. Elms would score after Frankwicz would connect with sophomore midfielder Rachel Dort (Chicopee, Mass.) for her first goal of the season. Going into the halftime break, the score would be tied 5-5, but sophomore goaltender Marisa LaRocque (Agawam, Mass.) would make six of the 15 shots she faced in the opening half.

The third quarter would see both teams struggle to score, trading possession back-and-forth for a large amount of time in the quarter, but Elms would score twice after first year defender Mia Pacheco (Somerville, Mass.) would score her first goal of her collegiate career, followed by a goal by Cronin to give the Blazers a 7-5 lead. In the fourth and final quarter, the two conference foes would battle throughout the quarter. Regis would score an additional five goals, but the Elms offense would score two more goals by Frankwicz and Cronin, along with an additional five saves by LaRocque. Unfortunately those last two goals and strong defensive showing would not be enough, as the Pride would win the contest by a goal 10-9.
