Women's Basketball Wraps Up 2024-25 Season in the GNAC Quarterfinals
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Number Eight Seeded Elms College Women's Basketball team traveled to the Number One Seeded Johnson & Wales University for the 2024-2025 GNAC Women's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms would start the game off strong with a layup for two points made by first year Mary Turco (Winthrop, Mass.). Johnson & Wales would put up five points until they would foul graduate student guard Rahmia Johnston (Newton, Conn.) and she would make one out of the two free throw attempts. Turco would steal the ball, but then the Wildcats would foul sophomore guard Jade Lewis (Orlando, Fla.) and she would make one out of the two free throw attempts. After JWU capitalized they would foul Johnston, who would make both free throw attempts. Turco would get a defensive rebound which gave sophomore guard/forward Sophia Andrade (Southwick, Mass.) the opportunity to get a pass from Johnston, she would make a three-point shot. Elms would get an offensive possession, which led to Turco getting an offensive rebound and making a layup. Then junior forward/center Talia Uribe (South Hadley, Mass.) would steal the ball away from the Wildcats and would make a layup, which would end the first quarter. After Johnson & Wales put up the first points of the quarter, Turco would make a jump shot with an assist from Johnston. Then JWU would foul Johnston, who would make both free throw attempts. The Wildcats were able to put up more points, but Johnston was able to get a defensive rebound which gave first year guard Gabby Wasiewicz (Worcester, Mass.) the opportunity to make a three point jump shot. Then Wasiewicz would be fouled and make one out of the two free throw attempts. Towards the end the second quarter, sophomore guard/forward Shea Barron (Wallingford, Conn.) would earn a defensive rebound, but the Wildcats would hold on to the lead going into the halftime break, 45-21.
At the start of the third quarter, even though Johnson & Wales put up the first points, Elms would answer back with a driving layup made by Lewis that was assisted by Uribe. After more points put on the board by the Wildcats, junior guard Piper Graham (Lancaster, Penn.) would make a three point jump shot, which would be her first points on the night. Lewis would be fouled and make both free throw attempts. Barron would make a three point jump shot, which was assisted by Graham. The Blazers would keep fighting and then Barron would be fouled and make one out of the two free throw attempts. Then Lewis would pass the ball to Baroon who would make another three pointer. At the start of the fourth quarter, the Wildcats would put up the first points, but then would foul Lewis who would make one out of the two free throw attempts. Then Uribe would be fouled and would make one out of the two free throw attempts. Which was followed by another foul, but this time on Johnston who would make both free throw attempts. Then Johnston would drive the ball to the hoop for a layup. Andrade would steal the ball, which gave Johnston the opportunity to pass the ball to Gorksi who was able to make a layup. Then Johnston was able to make a layup, after an unsuccessful possession made by the Blazers. Then Johnston would be fouled and would make both free throw attempts. Junior guard Kelly LeBel (Tolland, Conn.) would steal the ball from the Wildcats and passed the ball to Lewis who was able to make a layup. After more points made by JWU, first year guard Mia Pacheco (Somerville, Mass.) was able to make a free throw attempt after being fouled. Unfortunately, the Blazers wouldn't be able to advance to the semi-finals, but they put up a tough fight against the Wildcats. Johnson & Wales would take home the win, 89-50, to advance to the GNAC Women's Semifinal on Thursday.
