Score: Elms College 76 | Mitchell College 49
Records: Blazers 6-10, 3-2 (GNAC) | Mariners 2-9, 1-5 (GNAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
To start the game, Elms would start with the ball and would put up the first points with a layup made by sophomore guard Jade Lewis (Orlando, Fla.). First year forward/center Mary Turco (Winthrop, Mass.) would get a defensive rebound then pass it to Lewis, who would make a three point jump shot. After back and forth possession, junior guard Piper Graham (Lancaster, Penn.) would tie the game with a jump shot, which was assisted by Lewis. After Mitchell answers back, Lewis would then make another jump shot tying the game back up. After another back and forth procession, the Blazers would get the ball, which would result in junior forward Jenny Gorski (Vernon, Conn.) to make a layup assisted by Lewis. Then Turco would make a layup, which was again assisted by Lewis, making it her third assist in the quarter. After the Mariners closed the gap, the Blazers would be able to put up another two points from a layup made by Turco, assisted by Lewis. That would be the last points put on the board by both teams to end the first quarter. Going into the second quarter Elms would still hold the lead and would maintain the lead with Turco's layup that was assisted by graduate student guard Rahmia Johnston (Newton, Conn.). Then after Mitchell would put up two points, Elms would answer back with a three point jump shot made by sophomore guard/ forward Shea Barron (Wallingford, Conn), assisted by junior forward/ center Talia Uribe (South Hadley, Mass.). Then Johnston would get a pass from first year guard Gabby Wasiewicz (Worcester, Mass.) and put up a three point jump shot. After another back and forth possession between both teams, Wasiewicz would make a three point jump shot that was assisted by Graham. Then Johnson would make a layup, which would help the Blazers maintain the lead by 9. After another back and forth possession Turco would get fouled and make one out of two attempts on free throws. The Mariners would get the ball, but then Gorski would steal the ball, which would give Turco the opportunity to make a layup which was assisted by junior guard Kelly LeBel (Tolland, Conn.). Turco would then help the Blazers maintain the lead by 10 with two layups back to back. Before the end of the second quarter, Graham would be able to put up a jump shot, making the score 37-26 Blazers.
At the start of the third quarter we would see a different narrative. Mitchell would be the one to put the first points on the board. However, Elms would answer back with a layup made by Uribe that was assisted by Lewis. After another back and forth set of possession, Uribe would put up another layup, but this time was assisted by Johnston. Then Turco would get the opportunity to make a layup and puts the ball into the basket. Then the Mariners would foul the Blazers own Turco. She would make one out of the two free throw attempts, which would give Elms a lead of 16. Then Mitchell would foul Elms again, but this time it was Johnston. Johnston would make one out of the two free throw attempts. After Mitchell made a jump shot, Gorski was able to put up a jump shot for two points, which was assisted by Johnston. After a couple of missed shots made by the Blazers, Gorski was able to rebound the ball and make a layup. Mitchell did not like that and would foul Gorski, but Gorski did not care and would make the free throw. We would then see the Mariners make a layup, but the Blazers would be able to strengthen the gap with a three point jump shot made by Wasiewicz, which was assisted by Johnston. After Mitchell put up two more points, they would foul the Blazers once again, giving Johnston the opportunity for two free throw attempts, which she would make both. Those would be the last points made in the third quarter from both teams. Once again we would see a similar narrative to the first half, where Elms would be the first to put up points in the quarter. This would happen because LeBel would steal the ball and Turco was able to make a layup from a pass from Lewis. LeBel would be able to make another layup with an assist from Turco. Then Mitchell would turn over the ball giving Turco the ball who would pass the ball to LeBel who would make a three point jump shot. After the three pointer, the Marnier would miss the opportunity for a jump shot. However, Lewis would rebound the ball and pass it to Gorski, who would make a layup. After Mitchell puts five points on the board, they would foul LeBel, and she would make one out of two free throw attempts. Then Turco would steal the ball, which would give sophomore guard/ forward Sophia Andrade (Southwick, Mass.) the opportunity to make a layup that was assisted by Johnston. After two free throws made by Mitchell, Elms would get the ball and Johnston would make a layup. After an unsuccessful offensive possession by the Blazers, they would get the ball back and Shea would pass the ball to Graham who would make a three point jump shot. Then, Uribe would steal the ball back for the Blazers and make a layup making the score 74-46. Mitchell would miss another shot, first year guard Phonia Guerrier (Springfield, Mass.) would rebound the ball, which gave the opportunity for Graham to pass the ball to first year forward Heaven Smith (West Hartford, Conn.), who made a jump shot. This would be the last point made in the game. The Blazers would secure the win with a score of 76-49.
