HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Kaelyn Zakaitis (Amherst, Mass.) would take the ball for Elms in Game 1, pitching five scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. In the bottom of the first, the Blazers would score six runs, after senior outfielder Kyla Cook (Taunton, Mass.) would single to left field to advance sophomore infielders Amanda Raymond (Auburn, Maine) and Jill Dykema (Preston, Conn.). Raymond and Dykema would then both score on wild pitches. Elms would then score four more runs on walks, where Cook, graduate student Kelsey Bennett (Granby, Mass.), senior outfielder Sarah Fortini (Florida, Mass.), and senior infielder Danajah Stokes (Savannah, Ga.) each would cross the plate. The Blazers would then start with a double from Cook and would then add two additional runs in the bottom of the second inning, after Cook and Bennett would score on back-to-back walks. Elms would later see hits by Dykema, Stokes, and first year utility player Sydney Barthel (Windsor Locks, Conn.), along with Zakaitis reaching base on a fielder's choice, where the Blazers would win the first game 8-0.
Game 2
The second game would see Zakaitis again in the circle, pitching an additional three innings with six strikeouts. In the bottom of the first inning, Elms would score six runs, after Raymond would score on a passed ball, graduate student infielder Aixa Lopez-Reyes (Salinas, P.R.), Cook, and Stokes would score on walks, and two one-run singles by first year outfielder Tyanez Padilla (Springfield, Mass.) and Raymond. In the bottom of the second, Cook would start off with a leadoff triple and would score after Stokes would hit a single past the shortstop. Stokes would then score on a wild pitch, followed by Fortini and Barthel being driven-in by first year infielder Marissa Crepeau (Westfield, Mass.) and Padilla. They would score three more runs in the inning, after Padilla would score on a passed ball, Lopez-Reyes would hit a single to bring in Zakaitis, and Raymond would cross the plate after a fielding error by Fisher's defense. In the top of the fourth inning, Dykema would come into the game to relieve Zakaitis, pitching two innings with four strikeouts. Elms would score once more in the bottom half of the inning, after Cook would hit a single to right center field to drive in first year infielder Nyah Colon (Springfield, Mass.) to secure the 14-0 victory and complete the sweep over the Falcons.
