Johnson & Wales University Edges Past Men’s Soccer, 1-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore goalkeeper Christian Kostka (Oxford, Conn.) made seven saves, but an early scoring strike from Johnson & Wales University's Brandon Davidson (Allen, Texas) stood as the game-winner as the Wildcats posted a 1-0 victory over the Blazers in Wednesday afternoon's non-conference men's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms falls to 2-3-0 on the season while Johnson & Wales improves to 5-0-1 overall.

Allen put Johnson & Wales ahead in the sixth minute of play when he took a pass from O'kyle Corridon (Seldon, N.Y.) and made a run through the right side of the six-yard box and placed his shot in the top right corner of the net.

Elms, which outshot the Wildcats, 11-9 in the first period, had three shots on target including two from senior forward Adam O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) but Johnson & Wales' goalkeeper Ryan Dzierawski (Oakland, Mich.) made three saves to keep the Blazers off the board.

The sides played a scoreless second half with Elms edging the Wildcats 7-5 in shots but Wildcats' relief net-minder Jon Robbins (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) denied the three shots on target he faced including a sizzling blast from junior midfielder Joseph Coleman (Easthampton, Mass.) to protect the shutout.

Elms opens New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action on Saturday, September 21 when it hosts Regis College at 1:30 p.m.
