Late Second Half Goal Lifts Mitchell College Past Men’s Soccer, 1-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Elms College sophomore midfielder Safa Saady (Baghdad, Iraq) fired three shots on goal but Mitchell College's Zachary Simmons (Coventry, Conn.) netted the game's only goal in the 87^th minute of action to spark the Mariners to a 1-0 win in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer game in New London, Conn.

With the loss, Elms moves to 4-4-0 on the season, 1-1-0 in NECC action, while Mitchell improves to 4-5-0 overall, 2-0-0 in league action.

Elms held a 14-2 advantage in shots after 45 minutes of action but Mariners' goalkeeper Ramazan Sinani (Waterbury, Conn.) made six of his nine saves in the first stanza to keep the game level at 0-0.

Elms' sophomore goalkeeper Nick Pennant (Kingston, Jamaica) made his one save in the first half.

The Blazers outshot Mitchell 10-4 in second stanza as well including a strike from junior defender Brendan Reynolds (Springfield, Mass.) that hit the crossbar at the 46:05 mark. Blazers' senior forward Adam O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) hit the post with a shot in the 64^th minute and Sinani made three more saves to keep Elms off the board.

Mitchell found the back of the net in the 87^th minute when Andrew Nigro (East Granby, Conn.) made a pass to Simmons who beat a defender and tucked the ball into the lower right corner of the net to seal the victory.

Elms is back in action on Tuesday, October 1 at Worcester State University at 4:00 p.m.
