Box Score

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College freshmen forwards Andrew Atton (Lynn, Mass.) and Nzigamasa Jonathan (Springfield, Mass.) each scored a hat trick to help lift the Blazers to a 10-0 win over Wheelock College in Wednesday night's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms improves to 2-12-2 on the season, 1-4-1 in league action, while Wheelock slides to 0-15 overall, 0-6 in conference play.

Elms netted five goals in each half as Jonathan got the scoring started at the 4:19 mark when he scored on a through ball from senior forward Sean Moylan (Chicopee, Mass.). Atton then netted back-to-back goals at the 9:24 and 15:57 marks scoring on passes from freshman forward Robert Watson (Enfield, Conn.) and Jonathan.

Moylan then blasted a goal to the upper left side of the net after receiving a feed from freshman forward Bryan Davey (Palmer, Mass.) in the 22nd minute. Seven minutes later, Moylan found freshman midfielder Roldan Ramos-Monse (Springfield, Mass.) who connected for the Blazers' fifth tally of the period.

Thirteen minutes into the second half, senior defender Josh Chagnon (Loudon, N.H.) set up freshman midfielder Adam O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) with a pass that he drilled from about 30 yards out that soared into the net to give Elms a 6-0 advantage.

Two minutes later, O'Grady connected with Jonathan who broke free and beat the keeper for his second goal of the contest.

In the 67th minute, Atton added his third scoring strike when he received a pass in front of the net from Watson and finished with his third goal of the season.

Moylan then delivered a well-placed through ball to Watson who blasted his first goal of the game into the left side of the net giving the Blazers a 9-0 lead at the 68:53 mark.

Jonathan earned his hat trick when he raced down field and fired a shot that was batted away by Wheelock goalkeeper Bobby Venning (Greenfield, N.H.), collected the rebound and capitalized with the goal.

Six different players scored for Elms in the win while Moylan added two assists and a goal, Davey added two assists and Watson added two assists and a goal.

Chagnon, senior defenders Chris Silva (Chicopee, Mass.), Jon D'Amours (Chicopee, Mass.) and freshman defender Brendan Reed (East Longmeadow, Mass.) played superb defense, keeping Wheelock out of scoring range for the majority of the contest as the Wildcats were limited to just one shot.

EJ Patch (Lisbon, N.H.) played the first 45 minutes between the pipes for Wheelock and collected six saves, while Venning played the second stanza and notched nine saves.

Elms concludes its regular season with an NECC contest against Daniel Webster College on Saturday, Oct. 30. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. in Nashua, N.H.
