Field Hockey Score Against a Tough UMass-Dartmouth Team

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Elms College Field Hockey team traveled to the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth in non-conference action on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMass-Dartmouth would take offensive advantage early, scoring two goals in the opening five minutes of the quarter. The Corsairs would add an additional four goals in the second quarter. Elms first-year forward Rose Lewinski (South Hadley, Mass.) would take the first shot for the Blazers in the 24th minute, but it would be saved by Dartmouth's goaltender. Elms junior goaltender Katelyn Volk (Warwick, R.I.) would stop four shots during the first quarter, but UMD would have a very large lead heading into the halftime break with the score of 6-0.

The third quarter would see the Blazers on the offensive after a goal by junior midfielder Julianna Morrissette (Killingly, Conn.) (assisted by Stacy Ochieng) and earning back-to-back penalty corners taken by junior defender Elizabeth Franzoni (Rutland, Vt.). Elms would also switch goaltender at the beginning of the quarter, putting in first-year Emily Hunt (Montrose, N.Y.) making three saves. Unfortunately, UMass-Dartmouth's offense would continue to put pressure on the Blazers and scored two more goals, defeating Elms 8-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Volk and Hunt recorded a combined seven saves throughout the game.

  • Morrissette led Elms with two shots with a goal.
