McGillis Earns Fourth Place Best Time in Program History at Westfield State

WESTFIELD, MA - The Elms College Blazers competed in a dual meet against the Westfield State University Owls.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
The Blazers made their first splash in the 50-yard backstroke where Senior Captain Ashley Cronkhite (Lewiston, ME) got first place and Junior Manuerida Severino (Chicopee, MA) placed fourth. First year Joni McGillis (Katy, TX) followed their performance in the 50-yard freestyle capturing first place. Cronkhite and Sophomore Melany Boivin (Watertown, CT) also competed in the 50-yard freestyle. Cronkhite placed third and Boivin placed fifth.
 
After the diving break Cronkhite and McGillis competed in the 100-yard freestyle where Cronkhite placed third. McGillis earned first place while posting a season best time and the fourth best 100-yard freestyle time in program history.
 
McGillis rounded out her individual events with a second place finish in the 50-yard butterfly.
 
The Blazers ended the dual meet with a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

"The last two days were filled with fast swims and heart. I knew that this meet was going to be hard, but the team rose to the challenge. GO BLAZERS!"
 
UP NEXT:
 
-The Blazers are on the road on Saturday, 1/21 traveling to Weston, MA to compete against the Western New England University and Regis College. The Blazers will be making a splash at 11:00 AM.
