Late Rally Pushes Women's Soccer Past University of Saint Joseph

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Elms College Women's Soccer team traveled to University of Saint Joseph, Conn. for a conference match up on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first half, Elms would start off strong with the two opening shots within the first three minutes. These shots were made by senior forward Kelly Malheiro (Centereach, N.Y.) and sophomore forward/midfielder Emily Basua (Oxnard, Cali.). After a save from senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Quick (Barrington, N.H.), junior forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.) would have one shot before her first goal of the game. Towards the end of the first half, the Blazers would not have another shot but would hold a strong defense against the Blue Jays, leading them 1-0.   

At the start of the second half, USJ would have the first goal of the half within the first three minutes. However, both McDonough and Malheiro would have another shot on goal, but were both blocked. After USJ had another goal, graduate student forward Kellie Smith (Marshfield, Mass.) and Basua would have two more shots. Then Basua would tie the game 2-2, with her first goal of the game, assisted by sophomore forward Kaylee Little (Brighton, Mass). Before the conclusion of the second half, Basua would score the last goal, assisted by sophomore midfielder Lilli Ramos (Springfield, Mass.) to bring home the win for Elms. McDonough would have one more shot to end the second half. The Blazers would win a close game against the Blue Jays, 3-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Basua would have 2 goals, making it her 8th goal for the season 

  • Elms would have 11 shots on goal 

  • Quick would have 2 saves out of 4 shots  

 

UP NEXT: The Elms Women's Soccer team will travel to Northfield, Vt. to play against Norwich University in a conference match on Saturday, October 19th at 1 PM.
