WATERTOWN, Mass. – The Elms College women's soccer team registered their fifth clean sheet of the season, posting a 2-0 victory over host Newbury College in a New England Collegiate Conference match at Victory Field Saturday afternoon.

After over 25 minutes of physical, scoreless play, the Blazers cracked the scoreboard as sophomore defender Kylen O'Hearn (Somers, Conn.) took a pass from junior midfielder Melissa Welch (Westfield, Mass.) and ripped a shot from 25 yards out past Newbury junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Fox (Orono, Maine), staking the Blazers to a 1-0 lead. A stout defensive effort from the Elms backfield kept the Nighthawks off the scoreboard the remainder of the half.

Seven minutes into the second half, Elms delivered a back-breaker as sophomore midfielder Rachel Connell (Easthampton, Mass.) potted home a pass from Welch to secure the 2-0 victory for the Blazers.

Elms dominated the shot column during the contest, 32-2. Blazers junior goalie Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.) recorded her fifth shutout of the season with one save, while Fox turned away a game-high 17 shots for the Nighthawks.

The Blazers improves to 5-8-1 overall, and 4-1 in NECC play, while Newbury drops to 3-8 on the season, and 2-3 in conference. Elms will look to continue their unbeaten roll in a home clash with Bay Path Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Newbury will return to action at Daniel Webster on Wednesday.
