Men’s Soccer Falls to Regis College, 2-1
WESTON, Mass. – Elms College junior midfielder Adam O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) scored a goal in the 17th minute of action, but Regis College's Nick Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) scored what stood as the game-winner with 14 seconds to play before intermission to help lift the Pride to a 2-1 victory in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer game in Weston, Mass.
With the loss, Elms moves to 1-5 on the season, while Regis improves to 3-6 overall.
The Pride drew first blood when Angel Aguilar (Silver Spring, Md.) connected a pass to Steve Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) who ripped a shot from the top of the 18-yard box into the far left corner of the net giving Regis a 1-0 advantage 9:14 into the contest.
Adam O'Grady answered for the Blazers just 6:24 later when he beat the Pride's goalkeeper in the box and netted his second goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.
With just seconds to play before the halftime intermission, Regis scored its second goal of the game when Nick Tavares volleyed the ball into the lower left corner of the net following an assist by Alex Caliendo (Windsor, Conn.) that gave the Pride a 2-1 edge at the break.
Elms outshot Regis 10-3 (including six shots on net) in the second half but neither team scored in the final 45 minutes as the Pride held on for a 2-1 victory.
Elms' starting freshman goalkeeper Christian Kostka (Oxford, Conn.) made two saves but suffered the loss, while freshman net-minder Nicholson Pennant (Kingston, Jamaica) added two stops during second half action.
Adam O'Grady, junior forward Ziggy Jonathan (Burumdi, Africa) and sophomore midfielder Josh DiNoto (Branford, Conn.) fired two shots on goal each to lead the Blazers in the loss.
Regis' Stefan Todorovic (Los Angeles, Calif.) made eight saves between the pipes for the Pride to help seal the win.
Elms is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 26 when it travels to MIT for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference matchup with the Engineers.
