CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College senior goalkeeper Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) made 10 saves, but three different Mount Ida College players found the back of the net to lift the Mustangs to a 3-0 win over the Blazers in Thursday evening's non-conference men's soccer game at Leary Field.
With the loss, Elms slips to 3-9 overall, while Mount Ida improves to 6-7 on the season.
Mount Ida held a 15-4 shot advantage through the first 45 minutes of play and capitalized on its scoring opportunities when Mike Czorny (Dartmouth, Mass.) found Michael Templeton (Charlestown, N.H.) who drilled the ball into the net for the game's first score at the 30:14 mark.
Ten minutes later, the Mustangs extended their lead to 2-0 when Nick Rivas-Vasquez (Hamden, Conn.) drove in Mount Ida's second goal of the game.
The second period saw the sides play a more even tempo of soccer as Mount Ida edged the Blazers in second half shot total, 14-10. Elms' freshman forward Joelle Reyes (Lynn, Mass.) connected for three shots on target, while junior forward Tavish Leland (Bridgton, Maine) and freshman defender Anthony Nitri (Feeding Hills, Mass.) added two shots on goal each.
Peter Sliva (Glens Falls, N.Y.) capped the scoring in the 89th minute of play blasting a rebound following a save by Sullivan on Rivas-Vasquez shot to give Mount Ida a 3-0 win.
Joseph Casey (Merrimack, Mass.) pitched a shutout victory tallying nine saves to help secure the victory.
Elms begins a four-game road swing on Saturday, Oct. 15 when it travels to Leicester, Mass. for an 11:00 a.m. showdown with Becker College.
