ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf squad claimed the second spot in the 2015 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men's Golf Coaches' Preseason Poll, announced by the league office. The Blazers received 41 total points in the vote.
The Blazers are bringing back three golfers from the 2014-15 squad, who finished second in the NECC Championship. Senior Dan Olive (Jefferson Township, N.J.) and sophomore Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) and Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) will back for Elms as the Blazers seek their third conference championship. Joining the trio will be senior Brian Benson (Agawam, Mass.), who golfed for Elms during their 2013 Championship season, and freshman Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.). Fleury earned All-NECC First Team honors after a top-10 finish at the 2014 NECC Championship.
Babson College was unanimously voted to win the 2015 New England Collegiate Conference Men's Golf Championship. Babson finished the polls with 49 points in large part because of Ian Notkin, the reigning 2014 NECC Golfer/Rookie of the year. Together the Beavers have five returning starters including Vijay Vasandani and Chris Maguire both of whom are three time All NECC honorees.
Rounding out the top three is Newbury College with a total of 30 points. The Nighthawks will rely on the experience of their two returning starters from a season ago.
Landing fourth in the polls is Springfield College with 24 points. The Pride will lean heavily on their only returner Greg Allen who finished 5th at the 2014 NECC Championship.
Mitchell College earned 22 total points good enough for fifth place in the polls. Daniel Webster College and Becker College finished tied for sixth in the polls with 15 total points.
