HOW IT HAPPENED

In the top of the first inning, first year outfielder Anthony Osella (Manchester, Conn.) would begin the game with a walk and would be driven in by a single through the left side by first year infielder Aidan Daugherty (Southwick, Mass.), to give Elms an early 1-0 lead. Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Sal Ortiz (Springfield, Mass.) would hit a double down the right field line and would score following a single up the middle by first year infielder Jonas Diaz (Providence, R.I.). J.Diaz would steal second base and would be driven in by a single by first year catcher Franco Saglimbeni (Yaracuy, Venezuela). Saglimbeni would then score after Daugherty would hit a single up the middle, to bring the score to 4-0. Then in the bottom half of the inning, Emerson would score nine runs to take the lead. First year infielder Matt West (Stamford, Conn.) would hit a double to right center field in the top of the third inning. First year pitcher Brady Petto (Dedham, Mass.) would relieve Rosemond in the bottom half of the third, throwing two strikeouts, but the Lions would extend their lead by three runs. In the top of the fourth inning, Saglimbeni would reach base on an error committed by the third baseman, Osella would earn a walk and Daugherty would hit a third single to left field. Then junior infielder Jacob Perez (Manchester, Conn.) would reach base on a fielder's choice to bring Saglimbeni and Osella would score on a throwing error committed by the shortstop. In the bottom of the fourth inning, senior infielder Chase Prestia (Newington, Conn.) would relieve Petto, where he would throw two strikeouts in the next two innings. Unfortunately, Emerson would add a run in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, senior outfielder/pitcher Nason Busca (Windsor, Conn.) would relieve Prestia, but the Lions would add seven runs before first year infielder Colin Faber (Suffield, Conn.) would relieve Busca to end the inning. In the top of the seventh inning, Faber would reach base on an error by the second baseman and West would hit a double down the right field line.
