BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Massachusetts Maritime Academy put Elms College women's lacrosse team in an early hole en route to a 16-5 victory over the Blazers in a non-conference contest at Clean Harbors Stadium Thursday evening. Elms moves to 5-6 overall, while Mass Maritime improves to 5-5 on the season.

The Buccaneers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard with a pair of goals in the second minute of play, getting unassisted strikes from junior attacker Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.). With 25:25 remaining in the first half, freshman attacker Brianna Pingree (Mashpee, Mass.) scored the first of two goals in a four-minute span to extend the Mass Maritime advantage to 4-0. The Blazers netted their first goal of the day on an unassisted tally from senior attacker Nora McDonough (South Hadley, Mass.) with 20:40 on the clock.

At the 13:30 mark of the first half, the Buccaneers began to pull away with a four-goal spurt four goals in just over a three-minute span, led by sophomore midfielder Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) sandwiching a pair of goals around tallies from Smith and Hunt to make it an 8-1 game. McDonough recorded her second of the game to snap the Buccaneers run. With less than a minute to play, Solari registered a first half hat trick, followed by a response from Elms freshman midfielder Jackie Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) to close out the half with Mass Maritime leading 9-3.

The Buccaneers kept their motor running in the second half as junior attacker Jaime Prokscha (Washington, Conn.) converted off a pass from Smith. Strikes from Solari and Hunt, followed by a goal from sophomore midfielder Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.) pushed the Buccaneers lead to 14-3. Mass Maritime sophomore attacker Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.) and Pingree scored back-to-back to close out the Buccaneers attack for the day. Elms added a pair of goals in the final minutes with senior midfielder Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) and junior attacker Jillian Pirog (Ludlow, Mass.) scoring their first goals of the game, en route to the 16-5 defeat.

The Blazers will look to return to the win column with a New England Collegiate Conference home game against Southern Vermont at 3:00 p.m. The Buccaneers travel to Framingham State for non-conference action Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
