Softball Loses on the Road at Regis

WESTON, Mass. - The Elms College Softball team traveled to Regis College for a conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
In the top of the first inning, junior infielder/pitcher Jill Dykema (Preston, Conn.) would earn a walk, but the Elms offense would not be able to score in the inning. Junior pitcher/outfielder Kaelyn Zakaitis (Amherst, Mass.) would start in the pitcher's circle for the Blazers, recording two swinging strikeouts in the inning. Unfortunately the Regis offense would score five runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Pride would score one final run on Zakaitis before junior pitcher/utility player Caity Flynn (Colchester, Conn.) would replace her on the pitcher's rubber. However in the inning, Regis would score six more runs in the inning. In the top of the second inning, sophomore pitcher Reece Hebert (North Haven, Conn.) and first year utility player Cheyann Goddard (Pittsfield, Mass.) would both earn walks. In the bottom half of the inning, the Pride would score four more runs. In the fourth inning, the Blazers defense would keep their conference rivals scoreless and Flynn would toss two swinging strikeouts. In the fifth inning, first year infielder Reagan Giguere (West Haven, Conn.) would hit a single up the middle and junior utility player Amanda Raymond (Auburn, Maine) would earn a walk, but Regis would defeat Elms 16-0 in the opening game of the afternoon.

Game 2
In the top half of the first inning, Goddard would hit a single to center field, advanced to second base on a passed ball, and third base on a wild pitch, while first year catcher/utility player would earn a walk. Hebert would take the ball for Elms in the second game of the doubleheader, and would throw a swinging strikeout in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore infielder Nyah Colon (Springfield, Mass.) would be hit by a pitch in the top of the next inning. In the bottom of the second, the Pride would score a run, but Hebert would add three strikeouts. In the third and fourth inning, both teams would be unable to score in the inning, with a swinging strikeout from Hebert. In the fifth inning, Hebert would hit a double down the left field line and a single through the left side by Raymond, but Regis would add three more runs. In the sixth inning, the two conference teams would be handed a scoreless inning, but Hebert would toss a looking strikeout. In the seventh inning, the Blazers would look to score some runs, but the Pride would record the three outs to defeat Elms.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Raymond: a hit and a walk.

  • Dykema: a walk.

  • Jamrog: a walk.

  • Zakaitis: would pitch one and ⅓ innings, with two strikeouts.

  • Flynn: would pitch two and ⅔ innings, with two strikeouts and a scoreless inning.

  • Giguere: a hit.

  • Hebert: a hit, with a double, and a walk at the plate and would pitch six innings with six strikeouts and four scoreless innings.
