Men's Soccer Suffers a Tough Loss to Albertus Magnus at Home

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Men's Soccer team hosted Albertus Magnus College in a conference matchup Saturday evening at Leary Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first half would begin with the Blazers taking a lead in the shot chart, after a header from senior defender Justin Asberry (Windsor, Conn.) and a shot from sophomore midfielder Jelani John (Castries, Saint Lucia), but the Falcons would then take take the wheel taking five of the next six shots made, including the opening goal of the contest to take an early 1-0 lead. Elms would try to create an equalizer goal, with shots from Nicolas Velasquez (Ellington, Conn.) and Jamal Hamisi (Nottingham, United Kingdom), but Albertus Magnus would score once again before the halftime horn to go into the break with a 2-0 lead. During the first half of play, senior goalkeeper Aidan Berube (Chicopee, Mass.) would make two saves of the six shots he faced.

The Falcons would steamroll out of the halftime break, scoring a third goal in the 54th minute of play and would also take an additional two shots, both saved by Berube, quickly after that goal was made. The Albertus Magnus offense would continue their tactics taking four more shots which included the fourth and final goal of the game during the 67th minute of play. The Blazers offense would try to score a goal throughout the half, but the Falcons defense would not let it happen and they would defeat Elms 4-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Berube would make eight saves in the game.

  • Velasquez led the Blazers taking two shots in the matchup.

  • Asberry, Hamisi, and John rounded up the final three shots.

UP NEXT: The Elms Men's Soccer team will travel to New London, Conn. to take on Mitchell College in a conference matchup on Tuesday, October 1st at 3 PM.
