Men’s Soccer Lose First Conference Game to AMCats

PAXTON, Mass. - The Elms College Men's Soccer team traveled to Anna Maria College for their conference opener on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The game would begin with both teams on the attack trading possession, seeing sophomore Jelani John (Castries, Saint Lucia) recording the first shot for Elms, but Anna Maria would be the first to strike, scoring the opening goal in the 21st minute and then a second goal a minute later. The AMCats would continue their offensive pressure, but the Blazers would hold them off going into the halftime break down 2-0.

The second half would begin with the Blazers on the attacking side, seeing shots from John, junior Pajorn Drysdale (Nantucket, Mass.), sophomore Patricio Vidales (Cancun, Mexico), and sophomore Nicolas Velasquez (Ellington, Conn.), until senior Brandyn Costa (Palmer, Mass.) would find the back of the net to cut the AMC lead down to one. Elms would continue to put pressure on the Anna Maria defense, seeing shots from Velasquez, Vidales, Costa, and junior Jacobo Molina Ferrer (Valencia, Spain), but the AMCats would score the go-ahead goal on a penalty shot to secure the game 3-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Senior goalkeeper Aidan Berube (Chicopee, Mass.) would record six saves in the contest.

UP NEXT: The Elms Men's Soccer team will host Regis College in a conference matchup on Saturday, September 14th at 2 PM at Leary Field.
