WATERTOWN, Mass. – The Elms College men's soccer squad continued their New England Collegiate Conference roll, picking up a 1-0 win over host Newbury College at Victory Field Saturday evening.
The lone tally of the contest came for the Blazers in the 11th minute of play, as sophomore midfielder Safa Saady (Baghdad, Iraq) played a ball to junior midfielder Lorenzo Rolocut (Somers, Conn.), who fired a shot past Newbury junior goalkeeper Antonios Tran (Chelsea, Mass.), to give Elms the decisive 1-0 advantage.
A tremendous effort from the Blazers midfield and defensive backfield limited the Nighthawks to seven shots in the game, while the Elms racked up 22 shots. Blazers junior goalie Nick Pennant (St. Andrew, Jamaica) recorded his second clean sheet of the season with four saves. Tran stopped a game-high nine shots for the Nighthawks.
With the win, the Blazers improve to 6-6-2 on the season, and 3-0 in NECC play, while Newbury drops to 3-11-1, and 1-3 in conference. Elms will return to the pitch when they travel to Southern Vermont University Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Newbury is back in action with a road trip to Mitchell College Wednesday afternoon.
