Men's Lacrosse Hosts Emmanuel in Return to Leary Field

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Men's Lacrosse team hosted Emmanuel College for a conference game on Wednesday evening at Leary Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first quarter, the two conference foes would trade possession early, until Emmanuel would score three quick goals. Senior goalkeeper Caleb Smith (Suffield, Conn.) would make two saves in the quarter. Senior attack Connor Tobin (Northampton, Mass.) would record the first shot for Elms, but it would be saved by the Saints goalkeeper. The Emmanuel offense would add a goal, but then sophomore attack Colter McComas (Hampden, Mass.) would find graduate student midfielder Taahir Busaidy (Houston, Texas) to score the first goal for the Blazers. Unfortunately, the Saints would keep the momentum of the game in their favor, with a 4-1 lead going into the second quarter. In the second quarter, Emmanuel would add two quick goals in the opening two minutes. Throughout the remainder of the quarter, Smith would make seven saves and the Elms offense would see five shots from graduate student attack Devano Clarke (Barnstable, Mass.), senior midfielder Jacob Cancel (Northampton, Mass.), and Tobin. But the Saints would score seven additional goals before the end of the quarter and extend their lead to 13-1.

The third quarter would begin with Emmanuel continuing to keep their offensive advantage, by scoring three early goals in the opening two minutes of the second half. Throughout the quarter, the Blazers would add six saves by Smith and a combined four shots from Clarke, Cancel, and McComas, but the Saints would score five more goals and extend their lead further to 21-1. In the fourth and final quarter, the Elms defense would continue to keep their efforts high and make turnovers to create offensive attempts late in the contest, unfortunately, Emmanuel offense would add three final goals to defeat Elms 24-1 in their return to Leary Field.

  • Smith would record 15 saves of the 39 shots he would face.

  • Tobin would take two shots, with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.

  • Clarke would take three shots, with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.

  • Cancel would take four shots, with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

  • McComas would make an assist, with a shot and four ground balls.

  • Torres and Zapata would each record two ground balls and a caused turnover.
